Vespa Granturismo scooter

A 200cc scooter ridden by two thieves in Venice, who try to snatch Miss Bedfordshire’s bag. It is an almost brand-new bike with a single-cylinder four-stroke engine. Alex stops the thieves using bird seed. For more information, click here.

Motor cruiser

Alex sees this sleek private launch on the canal in Venice. It made largely from polished teak, with curtained windows and leather seats. A silver scorpion decorates the side of the boat, pinned to the bow. When he catches sight of it, it is transporting Julia Rothman to the Widow's Palace on the Grand Canal.

Vaporetto

A water bus on the canal in Venice. Alex pole-vaults onto it using a gondolier's oar in order to follow the motor cruiser carrying Julia Rothman.

Pendolino

The fast train from Venice to Naples, which Tom Harris and Alex catch. The journey takes over six hours.

Alfa Romeo Spider

A two-seater convertible with a 162kW quad camshaft V6 engine. Nile and Alex leave Consanto Enterprises in it, and head to Positano.

Boeing 747

An aeroplane, flight number BA 0074 from Lagos to Heathrow. It carries eighteen members of England reserve football squad.

Jaguar XJ6

A navy blue Jaguar that takes Alan Blunt and Alex from Liverpool Street to 10 Downing Street for the Cobra meeting.

Hot-air balloon

This hot-air balloon, launched from a secret London base, is integral to Scorpia's plan, Invisible Sword.

The balloon has a single burner and a platform of about twenty metres square made of plastic with a low railing. The balloon is painted blue and white to blend in with the sky.

On the platform there are four dishes, one in each corner, pointing to the four points of the compass. They are dull silver in colour and about three metres in diameter. Wires connect each dish to a series of boxes in the platform's centre.

Black pipes run up to the burner carrying liquid propane gas from tanks stacked next to machinery. There are two ropes dangling from the platform - which Alex and Nile climb up.

Tornado GR4 fighter jets

These planes set off from RAF High Wycombe, thirty miles outside London, home of Headquarters Strike Command. Each plane is equipped with Paveway II general-purpose bombs with built-in laser guidance systems and movable tail fins. The pilots are trained in low altitude precision attacks.
