Julia Rothman presents Max Grendel with an executive briefcase as a retirement present - but when he opens it, dozens of venomous scorpions swarm out. They are at least ten centimetres long, dark brown with tiny pincers and fat, swollen bodies. They climb inside his clothes, stinging him repeatedly; his heart gives out before the neurotoxins kill him.
