A great white shark, at least three metres long, attacks Alex when he is investigating the disappearance of Troy and Turner off the Casa de Oro. He evades the shark once, and fortunately for Alex it goes into the cave leading to the Devil's Chimney. This cave contains a boobytrap that skewers the shark with metal spikes - the same horrid fate that befell the two unlucky CIA operatives.
